Dear WECAN Members,
At the beginning of the summer, WECAN Food Basket held its annual general meeting, where the 2024 board of directors was chosen. I am very excited by the enthusiasm and knowledge that every board member is bringing to the board. The board has grown this year to twelve members, with six returning members and six new members.
I have been meeting with the board members through the summer and have been impressed at the commitment everyone is demonstrating to making fresh groceries accessible to our members. Board members are interested in growing WECAN and continuing to ensure that WECAN can continue to deliver fresh food every month that our members rely on.
WECAN has been a part of the Edmonton community for over 30 years. Through the members spreading the news about WECAN to their friends, families, and communities, WECAN has grown from a simple but innovative idea to an organization with many depots spread across Edmonton and the surrounding communities.
As summer starts to wind down, I want to encourage each WECAN member to continue to spread the word about WECAN in your communities. Inflation and skyrocketing grocery prices affect everyone- there are many more people in our communities that could benefit from being a member of WECAN Food Basket. If each WECAN member tells a couple of people about the benefits WECAN Food Basket has brought to your household, this could help WECAN’s membership grow significantly.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Scherer
