We have received some great news; we have received funding from the Edmonton Community Foundation for temporary delivery of food baskets for those most at risk in our community. We will be starting this temporary delivery of food orders for the next six months, starting in June for those who cannot pickup their food baskets due to COVID-19. We are excited to give this option to those most vulnerable in the Edmonton area. If you are interested in the delivery of your food basket please reach out to Hira by email info@wecanfood.com or phone 780-413-4525.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the strongest precautions must be taken to #FlattenTheCurve. Social distancing and frequent hand-washing must be practiced as much as possible as they are the most effective measures to #PreventTheSpread.

Community members still need necessities, such as food, but some should not or cannot leave their homes. Fortunately, healthy and less-vulnerable community members are not prohibited from providing these services when following provincial and federal regulations and guidelines.

Therefore, to ensure that vulnerable and self-isolating community members have the nutritious food they need to stay healthy and fight illness, and to ensure that communities on Treaty 6 land in Central Alberta have access to more affordable food to alleviate financial hardship during an economic downturn, WECAN Food Basket Society of Alberta will continue to provide food through our volunteer network.

To do so, WECAN Food Basket Society of Alberta will implement a new policy to ensure the health and safety of workers, volunteers, society members, and the public. We will also collaborate with volunteers and community groups to deliver orders to vulnerable and self-isolating community members.

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from our services please share our post or visit http://wecanfood.com to learn more. If you are interested in volunteering at one of our depots, or becoming a delivery driver, please comment below.
